Violence of Poles' killing shocked us

The killing of two Polish men Pawel Kalite and Marius Szwajkos was particularly shocking because of its brutality.

The case has shone a light on the drink and drug-fuelled violence that has become a common feature of crime in this city.

Hopefully the sentencing of David Curran for murder today will give some comfort to the families of the two victims.

But, of course, we know that nothing will bring back those two fine men who came to Dublin to work and contribute to our community.

Even in a city which has become used to violent crime, this case was shocking.

The horror of what happened to the two Polish men will linger for a long time in our memories, and we will not forget them.
