It is awful to think how a sun holiday has turned into tragedy for one Dublin family, with the shooting dead of a 41-year-old dad in a random attack.
John O'Neill, from Coolock, had flown to Spain with his family to attend a wedding, but ended up being shot dead in front of his partner.
What a shocking thing to happen, and our hearts go out today to the friends and family of the hard- working plasterer who had never been in any trouble.
Many thousands of Irish people fly abroad on sun holidays at this time of year, having saved up very hard to go on them, and thankfully, such violent incidents are rare.
But for the family of John O'Neill, that is no comfort.
He leaves behind a partner and two young children.
What a terrible end to a night out.
