HSE has to solve doctor scandal now

It is nothing short of a major scandal that junior doctors recruited from India and Pakistan to resolve the crisis in our emergency departments are sitting around unable to work.

The recruitment of these doctors was in response to a crisis which hit a peak at the beginning of July.

Three months down the line the doctors are actually in the country, living in bed and breakfast accommodation, with free meals but no wages and no work.

The failure of the HSE to sort this issue defies understanding and belief. The Health Executive is blaming the "complexity" of the registration process.

If needs be, people should be drafted in to work overtime on these "complexities" and sanction the appointments.

It is clear the authorities have forgotten that this is about patients who are ill and who are suffering while bureaucrats argue over form filling.
