The country's looming hospital crisis is an area of concern to everyone in this country. Minister for Health Dr James Reilly has warned that some emergency departments will struggle to fill junior doctor posts from next month.
Hospitals across the country may have to reduce services due to a chronic shortage of junior doctors after July 11, the date when doctors are rotated between posts as part of their training.
The shortage of non consultant hospital doctors is one element of the problem. Another is the brain drain of Irish doctors moving abroad. The shortages of NCHDs are occuring despite a record number of doctors qualifying in Ireland.
Then we have the issue of care homes, their cost and the service they provide their patients.
Dr Reilly has some major problems to sort out as a matter of urgency in our health service.
