FOUR cabinet resignations in one day has set a new, ludicrous and surreal record in Irish politics. The resignations of ministers Mary Harney, Dermot Ahern, Noel Dempsey and Tony Killeen has left the public bewildered and outraged.
The resignations came just days after Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheal Martin resigned following a failed leadership challenge.
Three of these ministers had already announced they would not contest the General Election.
We were told they would stay on as ministers for the good of the country, to push the Finance bill through, to put the economy on a sound footing.
Now what are the public to think? Is it simply a cynical exercise to give Fianna Fail candidates their 15 minutes in the sun?
The whole affair shows utter contempt for the electorate.
