Editorial: 'Troubling' decision by our courts

Another day, another court decision that, to put it mildly, perplexes decent people. An adult man who admits to having had sex with a 12-year-old girl walks free from court.

How can this happen, many people will be asking today.

The victim was just a little girl, who met Colin Reynolds weeks after making her Confirmation.

Reynolds became emotional as he addressed the court yesterday and said he was "immature" at the time.

Yes, he was 19 -- but the girl was only 12.

He had been "troubled" by the incident ever since, the court was told.

But he walked free after being given a suspended sentence.

A lot more people, who feel that the sexual assault of a child is one of those offences that merits a punishment, will yet again be "troubled" by a decision of our courts.
