Editorial: Tiger gang's baby threat is new low

A new low has been reached with the taking hostage of a 10-week-old baby by armed thugs. The threat by those criminals to harm an innocent infant in this latest Tiger kidnapping in Drogheda is absolutely despicable.

They knew their threat to the baby would strike terror into the hearts of her parents. The father was sent to the post office to collect f500,000 for the gang.

The men who perpetrated this latest outrage are the enemies of us all. They must be captured and their evil deed must be punished severely.

Children of employees of financial institutions cannot be considered 'fair game' by such individuals.

Life sentences must surely be considered by the courts for such crimes.

All the resources of the State must be used without stint to stop this cursed Tiger plague on Irish society.
