Editorial: Pension cut threat is final straw

It is a sorry state of affairs that our elderly people could see their pensions being cut, while fat cat bankers get to walk off into the sunset with their lucrative pots.

How is it fair that pensioners who have worked hard all their lives could be left seeing out their days worried about money, while the people who got us in this mess escape scott free?

How dare the Government think that they can put a threat to old age pensions out there in the public arena, causing fear and anxiety to a group who are vulnerable in our society.

Former disgraced banker Michael Fingleton is reported to have a pension fund of €27m, while Sean FitzPatrick's is said to be €25m.

If the Government wants to boost its reserves from pension funds, then examining theirs would surely be a good start.
