Editorial: Obama visit to speed up our recovery

US President Barack Obama's planned visit here in May is a terrific boost to our economy and our morale.

His visit signifies to the world that Ireland is on the road to recovery and open for business once more.

The US President has promised the new Government all the economic assistance he can give to help us bounce back.

We have had so much bad international press in recent months over the state of our finances but in May we will become the focus of the world's media again for all the right reasons.

Mr Obama's trip will boost tourism and the economy but will also ignite the spirit of recovery, helping us to put some of our financial woes behind us.

St Patrick's Day gives us unique access to the US President and this time the outcome has potential for real and lasting social and economic good.
