Editorial: Let us hope this political turmoil ends

A week may be a long time in politics but two weeks can be absolutely calamitous. First came George Lee's shock resignation, which threw Fine Gael into turmoil.

Next it was the turn of the Green Party with the resignation of Deirdre de Burca and her scathing attack on the party leader.

Now Fianna Fail has lost one of its most prominent ministers with the forced resignation of Defence Minister Willie O'Dea.

So far, of all the main players only the Labour Party has remained unscathed.

While all of these resignations have led to huge public interest, multiple newspaper articles and endless radio and TV debate, they should not detract our politicians from their real work.

It is time to return to the more serious business of running the country by creating jobs and ensuring financial stability.
