Editorial: Hearts go out to crash families

THE ROAD crash that killed eight men is truly horrific. The scale of the tragedy, particularly for the families of the victims, is hard to fathom.

The two-car collision happened on the Buncrana to Clonmany Road.

Only one person survived and is being treated at Letterkenny General Hospital.

The whole community will take a long time to get beyond this latest heartbreak.

Transport Minister Noel Dempsey was recently presented with an award for our improving road statistics.

However, this will mean nothing now to the families directly affected by the Donegal crash. Its impact will be felt far beyond the communities who have now lost eight young men.

There won't be a parent in the country whose son or daughter goes out in a car at night that won't feel deeply for the bereaved families today -- or worry a little bit more about their own.
