Editorial: Flow of cash into Anglo has to stop

Anglo Irish Bank is sucking the life-blood out of our economy -- and the worst thing is that there is no end in sight.

Saving Anglo has become a financial black hole, swallowing billions of money belonging to taxpayers.

The European Commission gave the Government permission to plough another €10bn into the bank, on top of the €14bn already approved, but there is no guarantee that this bill won't rise even further.

This is all good and well for Anglo, but is it good for Ireland as a country?

We were assured that there was no alternative to saving Anglo, but there is deep unease amongst taxpayers' about such vast amounts of money being used in this way.

People would prefer to see their money used to fund vital frontline services in health or education, rather than propping up the banking system. There must be an end to further cash demands.
