SO Brian Cowen is still leader of Fianna Fail after a bitter leadership battle. The public looked on somewhat dumbfounded on the sidelines as the "heave" played out over the past week.
The issue for most people is the economy, jobs, paying their mortgages and bills and surviving this recession.
Instead, we had an internal party dispute raised to an international level which distracted from the business of running the country.
Mr Cowen may be pleased with his success but the row was divisive for Fianna Fail and left some looking weak and indecisive.
To the ordinary citizen it was a waste of time.
Now most simply want to know when is the General Election?
The issue of who is leader until then is an academic one.
