It's a miracle that no-one was killed in last night's indiscrimate shooting in a pub in Fairview, which left three people injured, two seriously.
And it's deeply disturbing that these kind of violent incidents are becoming more and more frequent on the streets of our capital city. Nestled in a residential area close to Croke Park, the Players Lounge has long been a favourite haunt of GAA fans and locals alike.
The fact that a lone gunman should open fire in such a public place just shows the callous disregard that they hold for human life. We can only hope that the appeal for eyewitnesses proves fruitful and that gardai catch this suspect before lives are lost.
