Editorial: Back to real issues now FF fight over

THE country has heaved a sigh of relief today that the Fianna Fail leadership issue has been finally put to bed. The public has had to listen to a week and a half of rumblings and uncertainties about the leader of a party at a time when everyone's mind was concentrated on far more important matters.

The Fianna Fail side show was the focus of attention for our Government while ordinary citizens worried about the latest tax cuts, the details of the Finance Bill and the daily reports of further job losses.

We seemed to be drifting rudderless all week despite the enormous financial difficulties we face.

With all parties now gearing up for full election mode, we can return to the real priorities.

So many deep problems need to be tackled. Can we stop the bickering and just get on with it?
