Editorial: Answers are needed on Hamas plot

Authorities in Dubai say that six Irish passports were used by assassins alleged to have been involved in the murder of a Hamas commander.

Every day brings a new twist in the case of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, with up to 26 people believed to have been involved in the plot to kill him.

It has turned into a global investigation. The gardai are liaising with colleagues in Interpol and police forces in the other countries affected, and it is to be hoped that they can get to the bottom of his murky business.

We need to establish how genuine passport numbers came to be used in the Irish cases, although the rest of the information was falsified.

There is a lot of finger pointing going on in relation to who was behind the hit squad, but little in the way of answers so far.
