Aoife Finneran: Stars stroll down green 'red carpet' to sushi and champers at gala dinner

TWO champagne bars, sushi tables, a glittering candle-lit verandah and an appropriately green 'red carpet' greeted the world's top golfers, screen and sports stars at last night's gala dinner at Adare Manor.

More than 500 guests, including actor Michael Douglas and his wife Catherine Zeta Jones, and soccer pundit Jamie Redknapp and his wife Louise, attended the no-expense-spared bash in a specially erected marquee in the grounds of the Limerick hotel.

And, as these pictures show, the A-list guests were treated to a suitably stylish party with entertainment by boy band Westlife.

As last-minute preparations got underway yesterday evening, Nicky Byrne and Shane Filan arrived for a sound-check.

Having played 18 holes earlier in the day, the singers jetted to Cork for a concert before returning to entertain the masses at the plush event in Adare.

The guests of tycoon JP McManus were treated to two champagne bars decked out in leather furniture, while sushi tables catered for the more adventurous palate.

The bars opened onto a semi-covered verandah area, festooned with candles in lanterns and bay trees.

However, onlookers hoping to feast their eyes on the celebrity guests were disappointed. A fleet of black cars moved from Adare Castle to the marquee, dropping off their precious cargo at the secluded entrance.

Inside, Mr McManus addressed guests before presiding over the presentation of the winner's trophy to Darren Clarke.
