O'Neill's late point sees Ballyboden finally break Cuala
AN injury-time point from Colm O'Neill handed BALLYBODEN ST ENDA'S narrow victory over league holders CUALA in their entertaining Dublin Minor Hurling League Division 1 encounter at Sancta Maria on Sunday morning.
The efforts of Jack Behan, Kevin Killian and nine points from Seán Treacy ensured Cuala were always in the hunt but 'Boden, driven on by Ken Wigglesworth, centre-back James Madden and Fionn Maguire, clinched the win with O'Neill, Tom Hanafin and Eamon Gorman sharing 10 points over the hour.
Last year's beaten finalists KILMACUD CROKES were indebted to two goals from Seán Keating as they overcame CASTLEKNOCK by eight points at Silver Park.
The hosts impressed with Mikey Crowley's goal before the break handing them the initiative while Keating, Donal Keane and Mark O'Loughlin added points to reflect their control on the scoreboard.
The visitors battled gamely in reply but with Odhran Ó Siochrú and Donncha Ó Murchú impressing defensively, Kilmacud confirmed their victory through Keating's brace and further scores by Eamonn Allen and the tireless Mark McCallion.
At Cloghran, Conor Sheedy's early goal helped WHITEHALL COLMCILLE get the better of NH FIONNBARRA 2-9 to 1-5.
Dublin minor Seán Gray was especially accurate from placed balls for the winners and with Paddy Spellacy, Stephen Cassidy and Conor Nolan roving to telling effect, the hosts clinched the points through Jimmy Murtagh's second-half strike.
The remaining tie saw county champions NA FIANNA defeat near neighbours ST VINCENT'S by 0-18 to 2-7 at Páirc Naomh Uinsionn with Paul O'Dea producing a sublime display for the winners.
Midfielder O'Dea hit five points from play and despite not finding the net, Na Fianna confirmed their win with strong showings from AJ Murphy, Ciarán Heaney, Niall McKenna, Colin Whelan and Eoghan Heaney.
