One third not saving

ONE in every three consumers has admitted that they are not saving at the moment -- an increase from last month.

However, consumers said they are more positive about the savings environment, according to Nationwide/ESRI savings index.

There was a 3pc increase in the number of people who admitted they were not saving at all to 31pc.

The research has revealed that 56pc interviewed believe that they are saving less than they think they should, but only 9pc expect to be saving more in the future.

"The stabilisation in the index reflects the wider performance of the economy," said Nationwide UK (Ireland)'s Brendan Synnott.
