Oil leaks found in jet engines

Tests have uncovered oil leaks in three Rolls-Royce engines on Qantas' grounded Airbus A380s, the airline's CEO Alan Joyce has revealed.

Australia's national carrier grounded its six double-decker A380s after an engine burst minutes into a flight from Singapore to Sydney last week.

The plane made a safe emergency landing in Singapore.

Mr Joyce said engineers have discovered oil leaks in the turbine area of three engines on three different A380s.

All three affected engines have been removed from the planes for further testing.

Strikes foiled in Hollywood

Two film industry unions have agreed to a proposed contract from Hollywood movie and television studios in a tentative deal that would eliminate the threat of an actors' strike for at least three years.

The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the Screen Actors Guild reached the agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers after two months of negotiations.

The agreement would increase wages by 6pc over the three-year span of the contract.

4,000 protest over N-waste

Activists abseiled down from a high bridge, broke through police lines and chained themselves to German train tracks, trying to halt a shipment of nuclear waste.

The group was demonstrating against Chancellor Angela Merkel's plans to keep using nuclear energy.

Riot police tried to stop up to 4,000 protesters making their way through the woods onto the tracks near Dannenberg ahead of the nuclear waste train which was on its way to a disputed storage site at Gorleben.
