There was plenty of glitz and glamour at the Miss Universe Ireland last night.

Ireland's top models turned out in force to cheer on the 22 contestants in the super-competitive contest.

There was plenty of tan, sequins and false eyelashes but there could only be one winner.

And it fell to 22-year-old brunette Adrienne Murphy from Clondalkin, who took home the coveted tiara.

The advertising and marketing student said: "I am so shocked and thrilled. I cannot believe it. All the other girls are so beautiful. I didn't think I would win -- I'm delighted."

And the AR model says her boyfriend of six years, soldier Luke Henry, couldn't be prouder.

Billionaire

"He can't stop smiling. He's been nothing but supportive -- he's my number one fan."

Adrienne will now head to Las Vegas on December 19 for the Miss Universe competition.

And none other than billionaire Donald Trump will be judging the show.

The leggy brunette cannot wait to meet Trump. "I'm really looking forward to meeting him," she told the Herald.

"I've heard so much about him. He's so famous. I can't wait to go to Vegas and have a chat with him," she laughed.

Adrienne won the judges over with her warm personality. The model wore a stunning floor-length emerald dress to collect her sash and diamante tiara.

Last night's star-studded judging panel consisted of the ultimate yummy mummy Alison Canavan, Celebrity Banisteoir contestant Roz Purcell and beautician extraordinaire Marissa Carter.

Former winner Roz said the competition was an incredible opportunity and would encourage all young models to sign up.

"It's just amazing. I owe everything to the contest, it was such a great platform for me. I would definitely tell all young models to enter it. It opens so many doors."

Last night, TV3 presenter Alan Hughes and stylist Lisa Fitzpatrick kept the audience in hysterics.

"It was a great night," Lisa said. "Everyone had an absolute blast!"
