Zoo's tall order -- help us give new giraffe a name

Dublin Zoo's latest member is the star attraction as keepers prepare for a busy Christmas season.

The birth of the baby giraffe was viewed on video by staff when mother Maeve chose to deliver her baby alone.

Keepers now want the public to help them name the newborn who arrived at just two metres tall.

Keeper Helen Clarke-Bennet says the calf's birth was problem-free, with the baby on her feet within half an hour.

The newborn is the fifth giraffe to be born at the zoo in the past three years and the herd now has one adult male, two adult females and five youngsters.

Name suggestions can be made by email, post or through the zoo's Facebook page and have to take account of the Rothschild giraffe's Kenyan origins.
