Young man smashed iPhone on ground

A YOUNG man smashed his mobile phone on the ground to prevent drugs gardai from examining it, a court heard.

Gardai were unable to retrieve any information from Alex Forsyth's phone.

Garda Aidan Ivers said gardai obtained a search warrant and searched the defendant's home at Maple Avenue in Ballybrack around 5pm on April 10, 2014.

Gda Ivers said the defendant smashed his iPhone on the ground to stop him from examining it. He was unable to retrieve any information from the phone.

Defence lawyer asked the judge to leave Forsyth (21) without a conviction, saying he works in a convenience store and hopes to travel to America.

Judge Hugh O'Donnell fined Forsyth €300.
