Woodies owner expands

WOODIES owner Grafton said it has bought UK-based Direct Builders Merchants to increase reach in south east England.

The Dublin-based builders merchanting and DIY group is buying Direct Builders which is a general merchanting operation trading from three branches in Kent.

The new business had revenues of £4.8m in 2013, which is less than 1pc of Grafton's UK merchanting revenues last year.

The deal is a return to old ways for Grafton which has expanded by bolt-on deals like this over the years.
