Gardai are treating as suspicious the discovery of the body of a 37-year-old woman at a house in Carlow town last night.
The property, at Rochford Manor in Graigcullen, remained sealed off this morning after the woman's body was discovered in an upstairs bedroom by a female friend at 9.45pm yesterday.
She has been named locally as Elaine Flatley and it is understood that her body may have been in the house for more than a day.
The scene has been preserved and a post-mortem which is due to take place later today will determine the course of the investigation.
Sources told the Herald that there were no signs of forced entry at the property and no "obvious" injuries on Ms Flatley's body.
It is not yet known how the woman died. The body remained at the scene this morning.
A garda spokesman said: "Gardai at Carlow Town are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of a 37-year-old female in a house at Graiguecullen, Carlow Town on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at approximately 9.45pm.
