Woman freed in pipe bomb quiz

A WOMAN (62) arrested in connection with the attempted murder of two police officers has been released pending a report to prosecutors.

The officers escaped injury in the early hours of Tuesday when two pipe bombs were thrown at them on the Crumlin Road in north Belfast.

The attack has been blamed on dissident republicans.

On Tuesday a 25-year-old man was arrested in Shrewsbury, England, and taken to the North for questioning. A 27-year-old woman arrested in north Belfast on Wednesday also remained in custody last night.

MOTHER DIES

The mother of Grammy-winning pop star Bruno Mars has died in Hawaii.

Bernadette Hernandez died of a brain aneurysm, according to a publicist for Mars' label, Atlantic Records.

Ms Hernandez, a hula dancer and a singer from the Philippines, nurtured her son's interest in music at an early age.

FORMER British Prime Minister Tony Blair has warned there is a problem "within Islam" and described the ideology behind the murder of soldier Lee Rigby as "profound and dangerous".

The former Labour leader said "the seeds of future fanaticism and terror" were being sown, so children in the UK and abroad must be educated about the place of religion in society.
