Woman cheats death in Dublin city centre as theft suspects smash into her bike

A woman narrowly escaped death after a car driven by suspected burglars ploughed into a pole where she was unlocking her bike.
The woman managed to dart out of the way of the vehicle which was being pursued by gardai just after 2pm in Ringsend, Dublin yesterday.
Three suspected burglars were fleeing the scene of a house theft and were being followed, when their vehicle suddenly crashed into the pole, taking the woman's bike with it down the road.
JUMPED
The men jumped out and attempted to flee the scene.
One witness, truck driver Damien Bailie from Tallaght, said that it's lucky no one was hurt in the incident.
"They came around that bend like a bat out of hell, if I'd been two seconds earlier they'd have taken me out too," he said.
It is understood that the suspects are members of a well-known traveller gang originally from Tallaght but now thought to be based in Co Clare.
Sources told the Herald that two men aged 23 and 20 along with a juvenile male were later arrested in connection with the incident.
They were taken to Donnybrook, Pearse and Irishtown Garda Stations and were being quizzed last night.
Gardai are investigating if the three individuals arrested were responsible for a house theft a short time earlier in the nearby Newbridge Avenue area of Sandymount.
It is understood that gardai followed the vehicle at a distance, before it collided with the pole.
The incident happened in broad daylight outside Shelbourne Greyhound Stadium.
Witnesses were shocked to see the car mount the footpath and demolish a sign post at the junction of South Lotts Road with Hastings Street, missing the woman only because she instinctively jumped out of the way.
DAMAGED
The bicycle was seriously damaged after it was dragged along by the car and the crash scattered debris across on the street.
The woman who narrowly avoided injury is understood to be an employee of an engineering firm based in the area.
Her colleagues immediately ran to her assistance when the crash happened.
The woman was too shaken to talk to the Herald but was relieved to be alive.
Witnesses said the occupants of the car attempted to flee the scene and ran down a cul-de-sac.
Gardai arrested the three suspects a short time later.
