Woman (27)killed as her car collides with lorry

A 27-year-old woman died instantly when her car collided with an articulated lorry.

Kathryn Jones was driving to work at 7am yesterday when her car struck a grass verge at Drumkeen, 7kms outside Letterkenny, before crossing the road and hitting the truck.

Ms Jones was originally from Derry but had spent the night with her boyfriend and part-time Highland Radio DJ Paddy Friel in Ballybofey.

Both worked at United Healthcare in Letterkenny.

A nurse who arrived at the accident tried to help the victim but Ms Jones died at the scene.

The accident forced the re-routing of the first stage of the Donegal International Rally.

Gardai say the driver of the lorry was uninjured in the crash.
