Wilson gun has vital clues

THE gun that was used to kill gangster John Wilson in Ballyfermot could have been used in other attacks.

The weapon is undergoing ballistic tests to see if it can link the killer gang to other crimes. Gardai are meanwhile closing in on a west Dublin crime gang following the Wilson killing, and continue to question a man they arrested after the hit. They also believe they are closing in on the driver who drove the two gunmen away from the scene in Ballyfermot.

"The gang are a west Dublin outfit who would not be that well known, but would be regarded as highly dangerous," said a source. "Wilson was probably killed by his own gang and it looks like a row over money."

One man is still being questioned in Ballyfermot about the murder, after the period of his detention was extended by another three days. John Wilson has survived three other attempts on his life, the latest one which happened in April in which he received gunshot wounds to the leg.

Detectives also remain confident of catching the killers of Gerard Eglington (27) and Declan O'Reilly (32), who were gunned down in separate attacks last week.
