Why the long face, officer?

GARDAI got more than they bargained for when conducting a routine check at the Smithfield Horse Fair.

A piebald pony got a bit frisky with one of the officers when he went to check the animal for an electronic tag.

The horseplay occurred last Sunday at the monthly horse fair in the area.

It appears the animal panicked when gardai attempted to check the animal for the tag.

Despite another man's attempts to calm the stallion, it grabbed one officer while his colleague came to his aid and tried to calm the animal. Nobody was injured during the incident.

Millions has been poured into 'improvements' to the Smithfield square, close to Dublin city centre, as authorities seek to regenerate the area.
