TAXATION in Ireland is among the lightest in the EU, according to a new study published by the European Commission.
Workers here pay an average of 24.6pc tax on their income, 10pc points below the average and well below Italy's 42.8pc.
Only three east European countries came in lower in the study, based on 2008 data -- Slovakia at 29.1pc, Latvia at 28.9pc and Romania at 28pc.
It was also revealed that Ireland doesn't have the lowest corporate tax rate in the EU. Bulgaria and Cyprus offer a 10pc rate in contrast to Ireland's 12.5pc.
