Well-known Irish celebrity accused of raping teen

A WELL-known showbiz personality has been accused of raping a woman who later gave birth to a baby girl.

The woman made a complaint against the star at a regional garda station a number of weeks ago about the alleged incident, which she said happened in the 1970s.

Gardai are investigating the woman's claims and have not yet interviewed the well-known personality, who regularly appears on TV.

The personality lives in Dublin.

It is understood that officers have written to the woman who made the complaint and asked her for a DNA report on her child.

Sources have told the Herald there may be "great difficulties" in any prosecution in this case.

The woman made a statement of complaint against the man earlier this month.

The statement was made over several hours and the alleged victim broke down in tears on a couple of occasions during the course of the interview.

The woman told gardai that the alleged rape took place several years ago, when she was aged only 16

A female garda, with experience in dealing with people lodging complaints related to sexual assault and rape, interviewed the woman.

It is claimed that the woman remembered walking behind the man. He turned around and pushed her over.

The woman claimed the man then pulled down her jeans and "next thing he was on top" of here.

It is understood the woman described herself as a young, naive virgin who did not know what was happening.

She barely knew who he was at the time.
