Web designer allegedly knocked man out in club

A WEB designer allegedly punched another man until he lost consciousness in a row in a Dublin nightclub.

Rory Sturdy (35) is charged with assaulting and injuring the man who suffered temporary hearing loss afterwards, Dublin District Court heard.

Judge Patricia McNamara adjourned the case.

Mr Sturdy, with an address at Rathflesk, Rathmoylan, Co Meath is charged with assault causing harm to a man at Everleigh Garden, Harcourt Street on September 29, 2013.

The court heard the alleged victim had been at the bar with his girlfriend when the accused came over and began talking to her. It was alleged that drinks were knocked over.

The accused allegedly lunged at the man, "took him to the ground" and punched him to the head several times.

The man lost consciousness for several seconds and suffered a cut to his left ear and bruising over his left cheek and eye. He had temporary hearing loss, but there were no long-term injuries.

Defence Solicitor Stephen O'Mahony said the situation was that the two were "struggling on the ground".

Judge McNamara accepted jurisdiction to deal with the case.

The accused, who works on a freelance basis, has not yet indicated a plea.
