Weather: What's to come

Floods could be the next problem on St Stephen's Day, following a month of ice and snow.

Met Eireann said today the combination of heavy rain and melt-water will probably cause flooding on December 26 and 27.

Tonight is forecast to be one of the coldest nights yet in the big freeze, with temperatures plummeting to between -8C and -15C.

No snow is expected tomorrow but the public are likely to remain wary following the blizzards, which had not been forecast, that hit Dublin in the past 24 hours.

Temperatures on St Stephen's Day are predicted to be well above freezing.
