Wall Street tumbles

US stocks have fallen heavily on Wall Street in the wake of the re-election of Barack Obama.

The declines put the S&P 500 on track for its biggest drop since June. They came as investors shifted their focus to a looming fiscal showdown in Congress, where politicians must now focus on some €470bn in spending cuts and tax increases due to kick in next year that could derail the economic recovery.
