A criminal carried out a string of vicious attacks -- each time after getting bail for a previous offence.
Mark Fagan (21), who has 88 previous convictions, was jailed for nine years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
In one incident he stabbed a man while attempting to burgle his house and on another he tried to run over a garda in a stolen car.
Fagan, of Whitethorn Drive, Palmerstown, admitted burglary, aggravated burglary, criminal damage, unauthor-ised use of a car, drunk driving and dangerous driving.
Widow wins hospital payout
A 50-year-old father of six died of a heart infection after he was discharged from a hospital in an allegedly unsafe condition, it was claimed in the High Court.
The widow of William O'Connell, of Bruff, Limerick, secured €200,000 in settlement of her action against the HSE and two Limerick Regional Hospital consultants.
Terror on jet after note find
A United Airlines jet made an emergency landing in Salt Lake City, Utah after a threatening note was found on board.
Flight 741, carrying 168 passengers, went on after seven hours of checks.
A spokesman said the threat on the note was considered credible by the pilot and crew.
