Irish actress Victoria Smurfit and her entrepreneur husband Doug Baxter have filed for divorce after 15 years of marriage.
The 40-year-old made the announcement yesterday from her LA home where she moved four years ago with Mr Baxter and their three children.
Victoria stated that the two would remain friends and that the matter would not be discussed further.
"Doug Baxter and I have filed for divorce," the actress stated.
"For 15 years we have been the best of friends and we continue to be, not only for ourselves but for our family.
"We have always been a tight-knit unit and we are both committed to maintaining that going forward," she said.
The two tied the knot in 2000 in Sydney after meeting at an award ceremony.
The niece of Kappa Smurfit founder Michael also added that the split would not be discussed again to protect their children, Evie Dorothy (10), Ridley Belle (7) and Flynn Alexander (6).
"Our children are our highest priority, so to protect them we will not be discussing it further. Change is difficult enough," Victoria said.
The news will attract significant media attention as Victoria is well known in the US.
She has appeared in a series of high profile roles, including Lady Jayne in the recent NBC series 'Dracula' opposite Jonathan Rhys- Meyers.
The 10-part series re-telling Bram Stoker's 1897 classic, was dropped because of falling ratings.
Victoria is currently filming Once Upon a Time - an American fairytale in which the Dubliner plays Cruella De Vil - in Vancouver.
