THE victims of the tragic air crash in the Blackstairs Mountains will be laid to rest after funerals on Thursday.

Experienced flyers Paul Smith (58) and Bryan Keane (69) were killed when the light aircraft they were travelling in smashed into a mountain on the Carlow-Wexford border on Sunday.

Mr Smith's funeral will take place at 11am on Thursday morning at St Lawrence's Church, Rathmore.

His death notice reads that he is sadly missed by his loving wife Anne, his daughter Hazel-Ann and his son Howard as well as his grandchildren and siblings.

Mr Keane's funeral takes place at 2:30pm the same day at the Sacred Heart Church, Mullaghea, Kells.

Also a grandfather, Mr Keane is described as the beloved husband of Madeline and loving father of Andrea, Bryan, Robert, Colin and Cormac.

The Air Accident Investigations Unit is looking into the incident and are reported to be hoping to begin removing wreckage from the crash site today.
