UTV Ireland continue their trend of landing Ireland's top journalists as they signed Newstalk's Chris Donoghue as their news anchor.

The Breakfast host said that he is looking forward to the new career move.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity to work in television," Chris told the Herald.

However, he won't be giving up his radio slot alongside Ivan Yates.

"Newstalk and Ivan have been very supportive of me," he said. "I love working with them."

The channel announced yesterday that Chris (30) will be the new anchor of UTV Ireland's news and current affairs programmes alongside Alison Comyn. The programmes' titles are Ireland Live and Ireland Live at 10 due to air in January.

Mary Curtis, head of channel at UTV Ireland, said: "Chris is one of the most exciting and talented broadcasters in Ireland today. He has had an exceptional career in quite a short time frame."
