University asks for info on Keane shooting

STUDENTS in the University of Limerick have been asked to come forward with information following the attempted murder of drug dealer Christy Keane (54) on the campus.

Gardai in the city are on alert after the father of two, who is still in hospital recovering, was shot four times by two gunmen on June 29 as a new alliance of crime gangs bid to control the drugs market in Limerick.

The students were issued with a notice from gardai by the University President, Don Barry, about the ongoing garda investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station.

The email sent to students and staff yesterday details that gardai are trying to detect the movements of a red 132 Dublin-registered Ford Focus.

A white Volvo V70 with English registration plates is also being investigated and gardai believe the cars may have been in the area in the weeks leading up to the attack.
