Two killed in head-on collision

TWO people have died following a two-car, head-on collision, in the early hours of this morning.

A man aged in his 80s and a woman aged in her 40s both died following the crash on the main N24 Limerick to Waterford road.

The incident happened near the Limerick junction, in Ballykisteen, Co Tipperary, at 7.15am.

Both cars were travelling in opposite directions when they collided with each other.

Both victims were the sole occupants and drivers of their respective vehicles and both are understood to be from the Tipperary town area.

Their bodies were removed to University Hospital Limerick, where post mortems are due to be carried out.

Emergency services remained at the scene of the double fatality this morning and the N24 remained closed as gardai carried out a forensic collision investigation.

Major traffic diversions were put in place through the Tipperary/Limerick border area.
