Retired panto queen Adele King aka Twink has spoken of the heartache of losing her family home.

Earlier this year it emerged King (64) and her estranged husband David Agnew faced a bid by Bank of Scotland to repossess a house which is mortgaged in both their names.

The Bank of Scotland filed papers stating that as of August 2013 the bank was owed €244,000, including €11,600 in arrears.

Twink described the possibility of losing the house as “heartbreaking”.

“I absolutely love that old building,” she said. “I’d be well out of it by now if I didn’t adore it.” The building holds many treasured memories for her. “I absolutely love it,” she said.

“I put my life, soul, heart, money, earnings, everything into that house.

“It was the home I brought my children up in, was married to David in.”

Twink is currently looking to downsize but says she is having difficulty selling the property.

“People are not exactly jumping out of the hedgerows to buy a big old Georgian house in Rathfarnham these days. So even wanting to sell it is not that easy,” she said.

“And I don’t want some opportunistic boy with deep pockets to snatch it for 11 pence after all my work on it either.”

Working

The performer and baker said she is working around the clock to try and meet her repayments.

“The banks are the banks, they’re owed money, they’re owed money. That’s not their problem, that’s my problem,” she told RTE’s Brendan O’Connor. “I’m working all the hours God gave me to sort of keep it week to week, month to month.”
