Truck trailers tossed like toys in tornado

Up to a dozen tornadoes tore through a city, tossing truck trailers into the air like toys and ripping apart homes.

At least 17 people were injured in the densely populated Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas, but there were no reported deaths.

The tornadoes touched down during a massive storm that brought chaos from high winds, rain and hail.

Many of the six million residents were forced to scramble for safety as the storm bore down early yesterday afternoon, when schools and workplaces were open.

One tornado lifted trucks in the Flying J Truck Plaza in Dallas, said truck driver Michael Glennon, who caught the destruction, left, on his video camera as debris swirled through the air.

"We've seen roofs blown off, houses totally flattened, lorry trailers knocked over," said meteorologist Jesse Moore.

Seven people were injured in the suburb of Arlington, police said. Most suffered only minor injuries but one person hit by a falling tree was in a critical condition.
