Tragic Brittany had taken drugs

Actress Brittany Murphy died from pneumonia, severe anaemia and prescription medications.

An autopsy shows the 32-year-old actress's menstrual period left her in a weakened state after contracting pneumonia

It adds that the drugs found in Murphy's system were consistent with treatment of a cold or respiratory illness, but contributed to her death.

The star of 8 Mile had been complaining of severe abdominal pain for a week before her death. Her death has been ruled accidental.

Hospital plan faces appeals

PLANS for a €250m private medical facility on the grounds of St James's hospital have been delayed.

Appeals have been lodged with An Bord Pleanala against the decision by Dublin City Council to grant permission for the new 196-bed hospital. If it is built, the unit will employ 400 people in construction and 545 staff to run the facility.

A 19th-century chapel on the grounds is to be knocked down to facilitate the project, and this led to massive opposition in the local community and gave rise to many of the appeals.

Synchrony Properties Ltd said the development would be built within three years of the project getting the go-ahead from planners.
