A MAN fell to his death from a balcony inside the main offices of Dublin City Council today.

An investigation has been launched into the tragic incident which happened as hundreds of people had already started their day's work at the offices.

The building is also open to members of the public who can pay council bills and access other services there.

It is understood that the man fell off an internal balcony or walkway and onto the ground floor at the council's civic offices in Wood Quay.

He was found at around 10.15am this morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This was a tragedy and very upsetting for those inside the council," a source told the Herald.

"There are a number of atriums inside the offices and they are joined up by bridges," added the source.

A Garda spokesperson said: "It appears at this stage that it was a tragic incident and we are not looking at anything suspicious."
