Traffic chaos caused by jack-knifed truck

ONE of the city's busiest thoroughfares was brought to a standstill after a truck jack-knifed on Ellis Quay.

Motorists were held up for hours after the truck sat at a dangerous angle blocking two lanes of the three-lane quay.

The truck had been struggling to make a right turn off the quay when the driver lost control and it skidded across the lanes.

It had attempted to take a wider swing at the 90-degree angle but slid back towards the pavement.

The jack-knifed truck stopped three lanes of traffic, causing massive backlogs as it attempted to get free.

Gritters

Gardai managed to eventually diffuse the situation and directed traffic around the truck.

The area opposite the Guinness factory on the north quays was covered in black ice for at least three hours before gritters arrived.
