TRADE surplus has jumped by 11pc to over €4bn as the CSO recorded a 4pc jump in exports in the first eight months of 2011.
The figures outline that the trade surplus was very close to the all-time high of €4.18bn achieved in June of this year.
Eurostat data showing that for the period January-August, 2011 show that Ireland has the third largest trade surplus in absolute terms in the EU, after Germany and the Netherlands.
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton said that with the global challenges Ireland must "redouble our efforts if we are to sustain and improve this performance."
"If we are to see the recovery we are all working so hard to achieve, a strong export performance will be crucial," he added.
