Toddler (2) killed after being hit by caravan

A TODDLER has died after being struck by a caravan trailer in a freak holiday accident.

Two-year-old Erin Thomson was playing on a remote beach when she was knocked over.

The tragedy occurred on an idyllic beach in the rural holiday spot of Ballycastle, Co Mayo.

The youngster is understood to have been playing on the beach when she was knocked over by a reversing caravan on Saturday afternoon.

She was holidaying in Ballycastle with her extended family.

The little girl is originally from Gilnahirk Chase in Belfast but her family regularly visited the picturesque beach on the North Mayo coast.

Her devastated parents Sonya and Alan Thomson were today being comforted.

The toddler's body was brought back to Belfast for a funeral this weekend.
