Titanic memorial at sinking site

A SPECIAL memorial event to mark the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster will take place in the Atlantic at the time the ship sank.

The Fred Olsen Cruise Lines vessel Balmoral will sail from Southampton to the spot where the Belfast-built liner went down.

There, on the night of April 14 2012, Balmoral will be joined by cruise ship Azamara Journey which will have sailed from New York.

The two ships will meet at the site of the Titanic's collision with the iceberg at 11.40pm on April 14 and will host a memorial service to the 1,517 people who died.

Guests on both ships will be served 1912-period food and be entertained by early-20th century music. Many guests are expected to dress in the style of the time.

People from more than 20 countries have booked on to the Balmoral.
