Thug loses his grip on crime scene after sunshine exodus

THOMPSON (32) may be one of the most famous Irish gangsters based in Spain's Costa Del Crime but there can be little doubt that he does not have the same influence on Ireland's gangland scene that he had three or four years ago.

Thompson who was heavily embroiled in the bitter Crumlin/Drimnagh feud that claimed 15 lives when his crew went to war with Brian Rattigan's faction now lives a much quieter life.

It is understood that he married his partner Vicki Dempsey over the Christmas period just days before a European Arrest Warrant was issued for his arrest.

The DPP ruled that he should be charged with violent disorder over a brutal pub row in south inner city Dublin last year following the funeral of his criminal pal Christopher 'Git' Warren.

Thompson is currently on bail in Spain after police linked him to Christy Kinahan's international crime network.

He was extradited from Ireland in 2011, after a warrant was issued which stated that he is suspected of offences including drugs trafficking and money laundering.

He is said to be facing nine years in prison in Spain if convicted but under Spanish law, he has not been officially charged with any crimes.

Much of Thompson's criminal empire is now being run by younger criminals in the Crumlin and south inner city areas of the capital.
